Laboratory Apprenticeship Program


Dive into the mycelial mindset and empower yourself with practical skills! Over the course of four weeks, you will receive one-on-one guidance in our mycology laboratory in this 72-hour program.

This apprenticeship is designed for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of the fungal organism and gain hands-on mushroom cultivation skills. Students, permaculturalists, herbalists, educators, farmers, environmental activists, gardeners, landscapers, and more would all benefit from this program.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:
  • Fungal Ecology & Biology
  • Sterile Lab Technique
  • Agar Work
  • Liquid Media
  • Substrate Formulation
  • Medicinal Mushrooms
  • Medicine Making


Working hours are 9am – 2pm, Monday through Friday. As an apprentice, you will spend the majority of these hours in the laboratory. Apprentices will assist our Lab Manager in the production of spawn, mushrooms and medicinal extractions.


As an apprentice, you are also considered a member of our community. All community members participate in morning meetings, as well as our weekly chore rotation (including cooking and “minga” style, or all-hands-on-deck, cleaning).



$400 USD.

This price includes food, dormitory accommodation and workshops held at Fungi Academy.
