Wanting to stay committed to working my way through the fungal ecology course, so to motivate myself, I will share mushrooms I have found on recent backpacking trips on the west coast of the US each time I spend time on the course. Below is an un identified honker of a mushie. I would love to say this is a bolete based on the number of them we saw in the area, but this one was a bit different. Larger for one, but also had more topology to the cap as well than the more textbook spherical capped others we saw. Boletus Edulis is common to the area and may be what this is. I didn’t capture the bottom side of this one, so I do’t think I can be confident in an ID, but all future posts will have more confident IDs!
