This class will explore the intersection of Hermetic philosophy, spagyric alchemy, and mycology, investigating the overlooked but essential role fungi play in the broader alchemical worldview. While classical alchemical texts focus heavily on metals, planets, and botanical correspondences, the fungal kingdom remains largely unaddressed—despite its critical functions in decomposition, regeneration, and biochemical transformation.

Through an interdisciplinary framework, we will examine core alchemical principles—such as the Tria Prima, the Four Elements Theory, and the doctrine of signatures—and consider how these concepts apply to the fungal organism.

This class aims to articulate a contemporary model of alchemy that recognizes fungi not only as biochemical curiosities but as living symbols of transmutation, resilience, and interconnectedness. In doing so, we reclaim a more complete vision of nature’s alchemical processes.
