What to expect
And mush more…

DustinWhat is the Sacred Mycology movement?
Sacred mycology is about creating meaning and purpose in our lives with the help of mushrooms. It’s about learning to interact and listen to nature’s wisdom within and around us.
This wisdom has the potential to help us heal and regenerate ourselves and our environment. Sacred mushrooms can inspire us to find purpose and a deeply meaningful existence while living here on earth.
We envision a global culture that is educated, conscious, and tolerant towards psychedelic medicines and the people who use them.
A worldwide “ShroomBoom” is happening and the possibilities for any trained mushroom cultivator are endless. With the skills learned during our courses, students have gone on to start or find work at:

Founder & Lead Mycologist, Fungi Academy
Jasper is a mycologist and educator. With 12+ years of mushroom cultivation experience and over 2,500 students taught since 2019, he illuminates the intricate world of fungi with passion and expertise. He has co-created over 20 educational experiences and retreats, plus countless workshops worldwide.
With a penchant for interdisciplinary collaboration, he cultivates diverse communities of learners — empowering them to explore the symbiotic relationship between fungi, people, and their environments.
Graduates from 40+ countries
Fungi Academy significantly advanced my research, theory, and practice of mycology. The cultivation and journey was equivalent to a graduate-level mycology degree from a top-ranked university, compressed into an amazing week of fungal immersion.
If you have a love for mushrooms, and really want to know the species, and don’t know where to start — I think it’s a good way to start, find the root of it, and just start!
Fungi Academy figured out this genius way of providing an education and making it friendly. Regardless of your background, you can take the course and walk away ready to start your journey of cultivation.
The course, the crew, and my fellow companions all blew any expectations out of the water! Fungi Academy was everything I wanted for a cultivation course — and everything I didn’t know I needed!
My favorite thing has been the hands-on teaching — every little agar transfer and substrate step. If you’ve done them with someone who knows them, you feel safe doing it at home. Now I feel confident.
This experience was really life changing. Like a true mushroom journey, I got the medicine I needed — and with you folks, I got both. Thank you for cultivating such mycelial magic in its many forms.
The place is just magical and it feels like home. I’m vegan and the food was extremely delicious and suitable for all diets. All the teachers are knowledgeable and fun! The course gives you the best techniques to start growing successfully.
So hands-on — you’re not just sitting in a classroom. We do the actual procedures, and with so many people who know what they’re doing right next to you, it makes learning way easier.
Each facilitator transmits their wisdom as an art, channeled with love and attention to detail. They fuse science, biology, history, spiritual practice, and lab work to help deepen fungi awareness.
I was so impressed with how professional the curriculum is — the imagery, the marketing, everything from A to Z. It’s not your standard hippie operation.
I am blown away by how smart, organic and authentic the Fungi Academy teaching style is. I recommend this course unreservedly — no matter where you’re from, you’ll feel welcome, learn a lot, and be accepted.
The teachers were interactive, patient, and knowledgeable. The confidence, mycological knowledge, and community I gained there has been essential to developing my direction. It’s magical to walk away with connections to mycophiles around the globe.
Guatemala City — La Aurora (GUA) is the nearest international airport.
Travelling economically: take a shared or private shuttle to Panajachel (the biggest town on the lake). From there, take a lancha (public boat) to Tzununa, where a TukTuk driver will take you up to the Academy.
Private shuttle or car: plenty of options take you directly to Panajachel or Tzununa. As our student, we can help you organise a private car to the lake. Please note travel to and from Fungi Academy is not included in tuition.
Our retreats are jam-packed, so extend your stay to explore. Antigua is full of art, culture and food, surrounded by volcanoes (you can hike Acatenango for up-close lava). Lake Atitlán offers sunrise hikes, swimming, paddle-boarding, yoga, ecstatic dance and ceremonies. Further afield: the ruins of Tikal, the pools of Semuc Champey, and the surf town of El Paredón.
Tuition does not include accommodation. Limited accommodation is available at Fungi Academy HQ upon request prior to the start date. Our jungle property sits close to a river and includes Wi-Fi (sometimes spotty), shared bathrooms and showers, a sauna, a yoga shala, and a library.
It’s possible to stay on as a resident after the course. We can’t guarantee a spot until you’ve arrived and we’ve gotten to know each other — so let us know you’re interested when you arrive!
Yes! All our meals are vegetarian (with happy chicken eggs from our neighbours’ permaculture properties), and our chef happily caters to vegan, gluten-free, paleo, keto, and allergy needs. Let us know your preferences and we’ll keep your belly happy.
Yes! There are dogs and cats at Fungi Academy — future furry friends for you. If you have allergies, let us know when you arrive so we can support you.
Mushroom cultivation connects you with your food and medicine and puts you right into the moment. The mushroom industry is booming — magic mushroom retreats, microdosing, functional foods, foraging, psilocybin therapy, supplements, and gourmet cultivation. Many places have decriminalised sacred mushrooms, with more change underway. Now is the time to get skilled in all things Fungi!
The currency is the Quetzal. Exchange is available at the airport, banks, and some local markets, and there’s an ATM in nearby San Marcos. Come prepared with some cash, as there won’t be much time to visit an ATM once the course begins.
Your payment is non-refundable 🍄
