We open the doors of our HQ to a select number of residents each year, inviting fungi lovers from around the world to join our growing global community.
Our Residency Program is designed to cultivate connection, collaboration, and curiosity, bringing together spore-inspired conversations, hands-on projects, and the magic of communal living. It’s a space where passion for mushrooms and meaningful community meet.
The Fungi Academy HQ is a beautiful and rustic retreat nestled in the lush valley of Tzununá, overlooking the magical Lake Atitlán, Guatemala.
We offer a variety of accommodation options:
Private room options price range: $430 – $500 monthly
A seasonal tipi stay (available during Nov through May -Dry season months) price: $365 monthly
We recommend a minimum of one-month stay but have nightly & weekly options if it best suits everyone.
Whether you’re here for a workshop, a mushroom course, or a peaceful getaway, we have a space that suits your needs.
Please note: We live in a rich and biodiverse ecosystem, so you’ll be sharing the land with local insects and friendly spiders. Bring natural insect repellent — or embrace the experience and make a few tiny friends!
Fungi Academy is more than a place to stay — it’s a place to connect with nature, learn about fungi, and experience community living in one of the most beautiful parts of Guatemala.
Our community fluctuates and there are between 4-10 members in the community depending on the season. We have minimal community resident spaces during our retreat season and this can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
We buy community food every week with a $25 donation from each community member. This food is free for everyone to use and covers basic necessities like rice, vegetables, oils, coffee, etc. You will also have a space in the kitchen to keep personal items for yourself. We encourage you to organize a community meal or organize a Sunday pancake morning!
We have one community meeting per week with residents to discuss food and any tasks that need to be done in the community.
We encourage our residents to take initiative and get their hands dirty in the garden, help build something beautiful, or whatever the community needs are in the time you are here with the skills you have!
Residents are asked to work minimum 5-8 hours a week as well as a financial contribution depending on which room you take.
Just like any shared living space, residents are required to clean up after themselves and keep our communal spaces beautiful.
Being a part of the Fungi Academy residents program is a powerful transformative experience. Learning to work with others, communicate clearly and respect boundaries are all part of community living, and valuable life skills.
Plus, you get the opportunity to learn more about fungi and mushroom cultivation!

You can also receive discounts to in-person programs and offerings held at Fungi Academy HQ.
If you want to deep dive into Mushroom Cultivation we recommend to take either our online or in-person cultivation course to really get a full understanding of the process, or sign up for one-on-one classes with our lead cultivator (spaces vary depending on the season).
Residents are welcome to attend our weekly Mushroom Workshop to get an introduction and some hands-on experience. They can also help our lead cultivator Checha in the lab with daily tasks.
