Fungi Academy is an education center and community living space in Tzununá, Guatemala; near the shores of Lake Atitlán. We have some full-time members as well as some transitory residents.
We work to make mushroom education accessible and easy by connecting a global community to empower the growing and sharing of fungal wisdom.
Yes! Besides our in-person retreats and courses, we host Open Action Days every Thursday from 1-4 p.m. CST. This includes a hands-on mushroom workshop and tour of the Fungi Academy property.
We are only open to the public at this time, the rest of the time we try to respect the privacy of the residents who live there.

From Guatemala City you can either take a shared shuttle bus or private shuttle to get to Panajachel, the biggest town on Lake Atitlán. From Panajachel, you can take a lancha (public boat) to Tzununá.
In Tzununá, you will easily find a TukTuk driver who will happily take you to Fungi Academy, located above Hotel Bambu! (Locals know it as the Ashram.)
Shared shuttles to Panajachel can be found here (Xoxomil Tours)
If you’d like to take a private shuttle or car, there are plenty of options available to take you directly to Panajachel or Tzununá. You can either arrange one yourself outside of the airport terminal or book one through an agency at the airport.
If you are one of our students, we can help you organize a private car to the Lake!
We’re stoked you want to collaborate! How do you see us working together to spread the fungal wisdom?

We do sell medicinal mushroom tinctures during our Open Action Day, every Thursday, at our Fungi Academy campus in Tzununá, Guatemala. You can find our more about Open Action Day on our Facebook events page.
We typically sell Cordyceps, Reishi, Turkey Tail, Lion’s Mane and Artist Conk Tinctures, subject to change based on availability.
We don’t sell whole mushrooms, spores or kits, but we would love to teach you how to grow your own magic with our online Mushroom Cultivation Course!
We also host in-person Mushroom Cultivation Courses at the Academy.
Note: We only sell mushroom tinctures at our Fungi Academy campus. We don’t sell online or anywhere else in-person at the moment.
We don’t offer ceremonies, just education. There are lots of ceremonies like this happening around the lake. We recommend asking once you are here.

With so many varieties of fungi around the world, we are not able to help identify mushrooms online. Check out these resources to help you identify mushrooms yourself!
Reference sites like Mushroom Observer,
books (either local identification books or general field guide books like “Mushrooms Demystified”), or online groups and forums (Reddit, Facebook – ‘Mushroom Identification’) can be a huge help!
When identifying your mushrooms:
